RKSS (Ramakrishna Sarada Samiti) NGO is working since 1968 in Mumbai slums for the uplift of women and children, inspired by the lives and teachings of the Holy Trio – Sri Ramakrishna, Sarada Devi, and Swami Vivekananda. The RKSS community engagement center at Sion Koliwada embodies the Seva ideals and works for the empowerment of the economically disadvantaged women and children through participatory community engagement, and programs co-created by the beneficiaries. The center has evolved as a beloved second home to women and youth of the community irrespective of caste, religion, creed or affiliations.

For the Women – Vocational training programs, financial literacy classes, health and hygiene camps, children’s education; Of the women – promotion of entrepreneurship, partnership in programs, economic independence, and safety; By the women –Fully managed by women . Both the founding trustees of 1960s, and the new team of trustees are all professional, empowered women inspired by the ideals of the great woman saint, Ma Sarada who nurtured the seva-gene of this nation, in the 20th century. Children’s educational activities are: Pre-school for kids, Free tuitions from standard I to std. X, Library with 2000 books in English, Hindi, and Marathi, Reading room, free computer training classes, Mallakhamba training and focused educational camps like spoken English classes, summer camp, citizenship education and, career counseling by accomplished mentors.
Number of beneficiaries of the activities of RKSSNGO, a small community center nestled in the heart of the slums of Central Mumbai, have crossed 1 million (Ten Lakh disadvantaged people) up to pre-pandemic year. From 2020 to 2021, most activities came to a standstill but during this period SattvaIndia was born: for the women , by the women and of the women, a silver lining indeed for RKSSNGO reaffirming the fact that service ideals will continue at all times.
Besides trustees, hundreds of volunteers in the last few decades have directly served these under privileged women and children to bring sunshine in their lives and hundreds of donors have supported with money and material. With their support, our journey to serve has been enriching , joyous and fulfilling. These volunteers and donors are a testimony to the healthy and contagious spread of the spirit of service, bringing light and cheer in the lives of the poor.
To provide FREE health care for all, especially women who are counseled on simple hygiene and family planning.
To provide basic education at a low fee, and FREE tuitions mainly to the girl child and for boys in the slums.
To provide vocational support through training women for a low fee in tailoring and in computers especially.
In order to support the ever increasing costs of Vocational services and Educational activities of RKSSNGO.
