Sattvaindia.org, is promoted by Ramakrishna Sarada Samiti (RKSSNGO).
SAT-TVA in Sanskrit literally means REAL YOU, the self with infinite human potential; its acronym for Street Artisans and Trained Tailors Voluntary Association.
RKSS believes in community engagement and use the power of design for change, applying strategic design interventions for deep impact and social change. An example of design for change is SATTVAINDIA, which is a response to an immediate problem of loss of livelihood of women tailors in the slums, due to Covid pandemic and, is rooted in the larger idea of long term resilience through self employment opportunities, enterprise, self help and collective action with common goals.

As a first step in this direction, the tailor collective worked hard to produce well designed and researched high safety, super comfortable, face covers or masks during COVID lockdown. Sattvaindia.org went digital through a website, WhatsApp groups, and Google forms and, started selling masks.
Tailors and artisans are talented but without shops. They don’t know the basics of selling, much less digital. The collective worked in lockdown conditions, refusing to give in to adversity, and weathered many an impediment to create and sell masks. The masks became popular under the SATTVA brand. With little or no advertising we could sell 5000 masks during the PANDEMIC, and continuing to sell.
The first order came from AOF ( Ambit Oditi Foundation). Subsequently sales poured in. Finally, SATTVA cotton masks were exported to the US, and Singapore. A true reward to these brave women tailors, who fought the pandemic uniquely.
SATTVAINDIA is an idea born out of encouraging hopeless, and shopless women tailors and street artisans to form into a loose-coop such that they will produce not only high value handcrafted products but also provide doorstep tailoring services in Mumbai city, for starters.
Sales from SATTVA products will not only provide daily wages directly to tailors and artisans but will also be used entirely for social causes by RKSS.
RKSS is thankful to AOF (Ambit Oditi Foundation) for bringing us this far to provide training and opportunities to the tailor collective and unleashing the possibilities of growth for the under privileged women. Thanks to both grit and philanthropy, the adversity caused by a long lockdown gave a lending hand and this was leveraged as an opportunity for the women to come together, to overcome financial distress and discover the strengths in cooperation, joint enterprise, innovation, and digital marketing.
SATTVAINDIA.ORG website is under renovation and will be launched soon that provides a one stop shop for all the products made by SATTVA artisans along with these women tailors.
