The social innovation and design lab is a collaboration between RKSS (Ramakrishna Sarada Samiti) and multiple agencies committed to using the elements and principles of design for ushering social innovation and change. Director of SIDe Colab is Ar. Ms. Vidya Raghu, Chairman and Executive Trustee of RKSS. SIDe Colab works at scale through an integrated approach of innovative design and right technologies for the development and well being of the underserved and disadvantaged sections of our society.
The goals of SIDe Colab are to apply design thinking for inclusiveness, equity, gender equality, micro to small entrepreneurship, and sustainable development. Our placement in the midst of sprawling urban slum gives us the edge to work towards providing creative responses to the socio-economic challenges of poverty, pollution, failing health, poor quality education, unorganised street artisans, and forgotten values of citizenship in urban agglomerations that are complex but harmonious ecosystems, which are called cities.
This is a project being undertaken with RKSS leading the discussions with support from the faculty and students of The New School, a University in New York city, and the students of BSSA at NMIMS Deemed to-be-University, Mumbai and RKSS. The design intervention is aimed at using the medium of friendly discussions and storytelling among mothers to improve their general well being and that of their children of RKSS Playschool or, The Gammatwadi. Project duration 3 months (Sep – Nov 2023).
This is a project being undertaken by RKSS in partnership with Khushi Educational & Social Trust, Mumbai, and The Brihanmumbai Municipal corporation (BMC). Inculcate design value among the disadvantaged students through co-curricular Art class across 45 BMC schools ranging from 3rd to 8th standard. There are several volunteers and experts in Art who are engaged individually with the project. Project duration 9 months (July 2023 – Mar 2024).
